To ensure its resources are used effectively, and to maximize its good, the Tree of Sharing operates without any paid staff, instead relying on the year-round dedication of a a volunteer board and executive director.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Rachel Rooks

Rachel began volunteering with the Tree of Sharing in 2004 and was appointed Executive Director in early 2024. She has more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit marketing, fundraising, and event coordination, and is also responsible for the Tree's social media and online outreach. Her husband, Wade, is also on the Board and their son Connor, now 15, made his first appearance as a volunteer at the River Park Square Mall table when he was just one years old.

BOARD PRESIDENT

Wade Rooks

Wade began volunteering with the Tree of Sharing in 2003 as an Agency Representative for Goodwill Industries, where is now the Senior Associate Vice President of Human Resources. In 2018 he was elected Board President, utilizing his vast experience in human resources and nonprofit management, particularly with often-underserved populations.

BOARD VICE PRESIDENT

Stan McLean

Stanley started volunteering with the Tree of Sharing in 1989, playing an instrumental role in forming the organization's mission including helping to write by-laws in 2011, when he was elected to the Board. Stanley is the Warehouse Coordinator, working each year to ensure all gifts are distributed to our agency partners.

BOARD SECRETARY

Staci Nelson

Staci joined the Tree of Sharing Board in 2013 and was elected Board Secretary. She is the Principal of Nelson Stevenson Consulting, a Spokane Valley firm committed to helping social impact organizations more successfully carry out their missions. Staci offers grant consulting and project management services to clients across the country and has spent her career working with organizations that improve people’s lives and enhance communities,

BOARD TREASURER

Nikki Penna

Nikki became involved with the Tree of Sharing as a community partner through her employer Clearwater Paper, where she is the Senior Manager of Engagement and Inclusion, and was elected to the Board in 2022. Also responsible for coordinating the Community Partners, she connects with local businesses and organizations to fulfill gift requests each year.

BOARD MEMBER

Barb Borgens

Barb, a founding board member, began volunteering with the Tree of Sharing from the start and was elected to the Board in 2011, when the Tree officially became incorporated. She served as co-coordinator at the Riverpark Square Mall from 2010-2020 and continues to volunteer each year, helping to  coordinate volunteers and assisting at the warehouse.

BOARD MEMBER

Chris Bylow

Chris began volunteering with the Tree of Sharing, assisting his wife Julie in the warehouse, and was officially elected to the board in 2024.

Julie Bylow

Julie joined the board in 2017, gifting the Tree of Sharing with her extensive technological and database management skills, that she uses to manage the website as well as managing the tag production process.

BOARD MEMBER

Margaret Grier

Margaret became involved with the Tree of Sharing as an agency representative for Excelsior Wellness, where she currently works as a Care Coordinator, working with families in the community to provide hope, support, collaboration and connections. She joined the Board in 2011 and served as the mall coordinator at Northtown Mall for eight years. Like others, she has enjoyed making it a family affair, including her daughter in her volunteering from childhood into adulthood.
